Kids Pony Program

      _________________________________________________________________________________

Half Halt Stables is proud to offer a lesson program that emphasizes the foundation of dressage and the development of good horsemanship. Dressage helps develop the horse's natural ability and willingness to perform through a balanced rider, thereby making it a safe and enjoyable riding horse. Horsemanship focuses on the mutual understanding between the horse and rider. By introducing these skills early in riding, results in a partnership that is confident, comfortable, and safe in any discipline.

Why Ponies?

Just as in any sport your equipment must fit, well in riding it is no different! By using ponies that are proportional to the size of the rider gives each child a better chance to advance in their riding by gaining confidence and control over their mount. The key to producing good, effective, confident riders is matching horse and rider in size. Ponies are also safe, robust, forgiving and their size allows the child to gain control.

Why Riding?

Horseback riding is a good source of physical exercise for kids. It gets them outside in the fresh air while making it fun to exercise. Riding physically improves a growing child’s balance and coordination.  Not only does riding have super physical benefits but also helps develop a child’s independence and gives them a sense of freedom while learning responsibility of caring for an animal. Riding is also a great social sport for kids. They learn to push themselves to be good competitors while being a supporting team player in group settings. Riding is a sport that also has future building benefits for Junior and Young Riders. Scholarships, clinics, regional championships, team competitions, High school pin programs, and graduate programs are only a few of the opportunities that are offered to JR/YR riders every year.
