Hunter- Jumper Training and Lessons

At Half Halt Stables in central Florida we pride ourselves on being a professional horse training facility and in this spirit we are proud to announce the additional services that hunter jumper trainer Liz Kanan brings to our team. Liz Kanan, a remarkably open and positive trainer, is an equestrian with over 25 years of training, working and managing in hunter/jumper and equine sports. She has her master’s degree in Exercise Physiology and Wellness management and was the Director of Grand Cypress Equestrian Center at the Grand Cypress resort for over 17 years. As Director, she worked with and hosted many different types of equestrian events, including recognized dressage shows, combined training events, hunter/jumper shows and clinics. She is both professionally and temperamentally suited to train many different disciplines and help hunter jumpers to achieve their goals. In all horse riding disciplines the quality of instruction can make a huge difference in bringing out the best in a rider, be it dressage or hunter jumper, and Liz Kanan has a proven  she loves teaching  young riders, helping other riders to improve and has helped many students to start their riding careers.  The United States Hunter Jumper Association (USHJA) says in its 2007 USHJA Owners Resource Guide, Selecting a trainer is quite possibly the most important decision you will make.

At Half Halt Stables our main focus is on dressage and Susanne Benne leads this team, but the second part of any good dressage education is jumping.  And with Susanne and her team a hunter jumper can learn the flat work (dressage) that is the basis of developing the strength and technique to help the horse be a better jumper. At the top of the hunter jumper world the best riders work hard on their dressage, so their horses have better technique and strength to do the more demanding jumps. Even though dressage helps, the hunter jumper sport is also a discipline all its own, and for this reason we have teamed with Liz to bring her hunter jumper experience to our facility.

Liz Kanan has a gentle but commanding way for the young riders to learn and all of her students are thrilled with the lessons she gives.  In addition our parents are impressed with the progress their children show when instructed by Liz and her concern for the safety of all the riders.  As a veteran of the show circuit Liz can often be seen at hunter jumper shows coaching, encouraging, and helping these young horse riders to learn and achieve their goals.  When Liz teaches a young rider the proper way to sit, to command the horse, to ride; this is a skill the child can keep for a lifetime and use in many different types of riding, not just hunter jumper or dressage. If you want your child to learn the proper way to ride or just to have your child taught in a friendly, professional manner by a warm and caring trainer, then Liz Kanan is the instructor for you and can help your child to achieve their goals or just have fun in a warm, safe and children friendly environment.
